How to Tame Your TBR Pile

Some days I find myself scrolling through my recommended books Goodreads and adding an endless amount of books to my To Be Read pile. Today happened to be one of those days and I was left with a TBR list of 104 books. As a rule I try to stay below 100 so I think it's time that I clear it all up a bit and at the same time teach you all my three easy steps so that you can also tame your TBR list!

The Official Guide to Taming Your TBR List (as told by Tierra)

Step One. Move books that you have already read or are currently reading. This one may sound simple, but there's always a chance that you accidentally put a book on the wrong place. I always find at least one book that shouldn't be where it is and today was no exception.

Was: 104 | Now: 103

Step Two. Only add the next book from a series if you have read the one before it. What's the point of adding all 13 books in a series to your TBR list of you haven't even read the first one. You might not even like it and then what? You have 12 books sitting there that you are never going to read and all you achieve by having them there is making your TBR list look more daunting so if you have a book so if there is a book in a series that you have not read the one prior to it then get rid of it!

Was: 103 | Now: 96

Step Three. Get rid of all those books that simply no longer interest you. This step is the easiest, but also the most effective. I add so many books on a whim and when I look at them a few weeks later I no longer want to read them.

Was: 96 | Now: 57

And that's how I make my TBR list a little bit more manageable! I got rid of 47 books in total so if anyone else uses my method I'd love to know how many books you can clear out.

  1. I have no control and I have over 2 thousand on my GR TBR so this is incredibly helpful!

  2. I have over three hundred... Ouch. But, I like having it relatively long because I scroll through it, then I put books on hold at the library. :D

    1. That's a good point! For me if I had that many I'd feel like I could never get anywhere.

  3. How do you take a book off your TBR shelf on goodreads other than marking it as read?

    1. Thanks! Haha, here I am trying to keep my TBR list under 100 while others are trying to stay under 1000... I don't think I would be able to cope with that LOL
